Therapy
“I am enough.” Today’s society and culture often promotes perfectionism, unhealthy comparison with others, a sense of scarcity and competition, shame, and a sense of not being enough. At BRI, we are committed to helping to empower you to face and overcome challenges and to make changes in your life to become stronger and more resilient. This process not only helps you to become stronger, more confident, and more resilient but also benefits your family and your community.
Our team of highly trained professionals provide effective assessment, identification, intervention and treatment to support the mental health and overall well-being of all individuals. Our counsellors work collaboratively with individuals and family members to develop and set appropriate goal setting plans to help you move forward on your journey towards becoming more resilient and living wholeheartedly. We bring valuable knowledge, experience, skill, respect and cultural relevancy to our work with each client.

Youth Counselling | 50 minutes
Life presents challenges to children and adolescents related to school, family, social relationships, and transitions in personal development and identity. Our Masters level child & family therapists use evidence-based approaches to help children and adolescents face and overcome life difficulties and develop greater resilience. Our counsellors create a safe space in which children and youth can share and develop their voices and build confidence to face challenges successfully. We help children and youth to develop healthy relationships, build strengths and coping skills, and inspire hope. As children and youth are supported in their journey of becoming more resilient, their mental health, well-being, and performance in school improves.
As Dr. Ross Green states, “Kids will do well if they can.” BRI works to equip and provide the tools and skills that children and adolescents need in order for them to learn, develop new skills, set and achieve goals, and succeed in reaching their full potential at school, at home, and at work.

Couples Counselling | 80 minutes
Relationships with our intimate partners are very important to our health, happiness, and well-being and yet these relationships are both rewarding and challenging. Developing greater relationships skills and becoming more resilient in our intimate relationships helps us to face and overcome both the normal challenges of intimate relationships and also to adjust to extraordinary events and challenges.
Our team of counsellors are trained to support couples to improve their relationship, to foster better communication, to manage difficulties effectively, and to work through the conflicts that are a normal part of intimate relationships. Without taking sides, our counsellors strive to ensure that both parties feel safe enough to share their concerns, to work on both individual and couple issues, and to find useful common ground. BRI helps couples to gain a deeper understanding of their partner’s identity, needs and goals, learn how to state their needs more clearly and openly without hurting their partner, and settle conflicts in effective ways. We support couples in repairing negative interactions and experiences and developing a renewed sense of hope, love, and connection in the relationship.
Some of the concerns that we help with include the following:
- Communication
- Parenting
- Trust
- Disagreements and conflict resolution
- Household responsibilities
- Blended families
- Issues related to intimacy and sexuality

Family Counselling | 80 minutes
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angelou
We are all part of families and can benefit from learning new skills to improve our family relationships and become more resilient family members. At BRI, we truly believe it takes a village to raise a family. Parenting and family perfection is not the goal. The best teaching moments, according to Brene Brown, happen in those imperfect moments and when families learn to engage the world from a place of worthiness. We believe there is a crack in everything and that is how the light gets in. Thus, BRI focuses on making progress, learning new strategies, and unlearning negative behaviours in order to promote positive change and healthy growth.
Families are unique and diverse, taking on many different forms, shapes and sizes. Families also change and transition over time and we can benefit from learning ways to adjust to these changes. The notion of the nuclear family is no longer the standard goal nor the norm in today’s society, with larger extended families, single-parent families, childless or childfree families, stepfamilies, grandparent-led families, 2SLGBTQ+ families and blended families all very common. Our team believes that all families are resilient and we will work with you to help equip, enlighten and empower you and your family with the tools you need to go beyond surviving to thriving and succeeding. We help parents to identify and build on their strengths and we support them in learning to parent from a place of strength and of being “enough” rather than from weakness and scarcity. We help our families learn, grow and change in meaningful ways that lead to greater success, happiness, peace, and health.
Our vision of healthy, resilient and connected families and communities.
The BRI team utilizes evidence-based approaches to assess and identify problems. They employ family systems therapy, solution-focused brief counselling, multi-systemic therapy, structural and strategic family therapy. The goal of working with the family is to balance the needs and goals of all family members, to build on strengths, and to develop enhanced ways of relating, communicating, and facing challenges.
Some of the family issues that we help with include:
- Resolving conflicts between family members
- Illness, Injury, Grief, and Bereavement
- Unemployment and under-employment
- Romantic relationships
- Issues with children
- Separation and Divorce
- Mental health problems
- Substance abuse
- Family and interpersonal aggression and violence
